اَللّٰھُمَّ بَارِکْ لَنَا فِیْ شَعْبَانَ وَبَلِّغْنَا رَمَضَانَ... An essential supplication: اَللّٰھُمَّ اِنِّیْ اَسْئَلُکَ الْھُدیٰ وَالتُّقیٰ وَالْعَفَافَ وَالْغِنیٰ A very important supplication اَللّٰھُمَّ یَا مُقَلِّبَ الْقُلُوْبِ ثَبِّتْ قَلْبِیْ عَلیٰ دِیْنِکَ And our dire need: اَللّٰھُمَّ اِنِّیْ اَسْئَلُکَ الْعَافِیَۃَ فِی الدُّنْیَا وَالْآخِرَۃِ Supplication for protection against fear and unveiling اَللّٰھُمَّ اسْتُرْعَوْرَاتِنَا وَاٰمِنْ رَوْعَاتِنَا
In near past, a saint in Karachi passed away. His name was Mufti Rasheed Ahmad. He had very thorough knowledge of Din. He was a researcher and practical scholar i.e. divine scholar. May Allah bless him with forgiveness and high stages in the Paradise and introduce his beneficence on the earth. While supplicating, he underwent a very strange state as if he were lost in supplications. The people near him always waited for him to raise hands for supplications so that they might also join him in that sacred deed. In this way, his individual supplication would also become public.
How Did I Miss Him Toady? We never forget our ancestors but we miss them bitterly at times. I have been missing Mufti Rasheed Ahmad since morning. Visiting and introduction with him is one of Allah's favours. He was not my due teacher but I got the chance to learn and gain much from him. I accompanied him on a memorable visit to Afghanistan and availed myself of so many beneficent sittings and meetings. He awarded me many times. He encouraged me very greatly due to my speeches and writings on Jihaad. He possessed a very distinct temperament and bent of mind. Allah had blessed him with awe as well as love. Persuasion to give up sin was his favourite topic. As he was God-fearing, his preaching has special efficacy. He was dead against innovations, sins and obscenities. He called shaving beard a harmful sin. His sense of honour and extremism in defense of the Sunnah reached the extreme. He lost so many of his dear ones for this sake but he remained adamant to the stand till death. Man should remain adamant to his stand which he takes up for the sake of Allah. Change with changing times brings about success but this progress is very useless. In the same way, his view point with regard to Shariah veiling of women was quite clear and strict. As Shariah veiling is vanishing from among women, its correction was possible through such a strict standpoint. Hence, the flood of seditions also cooled. Third viewpoint on which he did not compromise was photography, videos and TV. He would criticise photography in speech and sitting.
He made several speeches on it, wrote a journal, distributed it among people and remained adamant to his stand. Is that journal published or not, available or not, we don't know? Actually, he had advised me in a sitting to propagate his magazines. During my confinement, I had started writing articles on them. Introduction to a few of his journals was published in those articles. Later on, that practice had to be stopped to convert them into columns due to unavoidable circumstances. Today, I recalled his dictum. Then the idea struck me how great philosophy lies in the words of the ancestors. Not long time has passed since his demise. He was a great scholar who had thousands of pupils. In order to comprehend his ideas now, no source other than his writings and speeches is available. So many individuals must be acting upon his ideas and sayings. It is also correct that he was not the name of a few famous rulings. Still it happens to a few ancestors that their prominent ideas and their propagations disappear for a short period. But after the lapse of a period, the fog vanishes and their names and achievements begin to glisten. I can give so many such examples from Islamic history. There have been individuals in this Ummah that keeping their books at homes becomes a crime after their demise. But that fog vanishes after some period of time and their names and works are revived. The reason is that a deed done with sincerity never goes waste. None of the pretentious deeds remains alive. It is Allah's decree "The foam on water vanishes at last. When flood comes, foam prevails everywhere and water is lost under it. Apparently it seems that this situation will ever remain. Then suddenly, foam begins to vanish and water is visible. واماماینفع الناس فیمکث فی الارض The thing that benefits humans remains present on the earth. Actual benefit is that of the Hereafter and Din."
Hazrat Mufti Rasheed Ahmad is Exempted: Today, I listened to a speech which was delivered in the institution ascribed to Mufti Rasheed Ahmad. In that speech, Jihaad was bitterly criticized. Sacred Afghan Jihaad was called American war. Then I recalled the scene wherein a famous figure of Afghan Jihaad Hazrat Maulana Jalal-ud-Din Haqqaani, the conqueror of Khost, and renowned Mujaahid and divine scholar came to Karachi before the establishment of Islamic Emirates and Mufti Rasheed Ahmad received him warmly. Hazrat Haqqaani delivered a detailed speech in Mufti Rasheed Ahmad's institute. Then Mufti Rasheed Ahmad visited Afghanistan himself. During that visit, he said, "If I had not gone on this journey to wage Jihaad, my life would have remained incomplete." However, he would consider Afghan Jihaad lawful. What we are listening these days are the views of the speakers whereas he is fully exempted from those ideas.
A Request: The purpose of this column is not to criticize anyone. I am afraid of criticism because as long as man dies in a state of faith, he is in danger. May Allah help and guide the individuals who work for Din. If you study my article minutely, you will find no criticism anywhere. The ancestors are common to all. Hazrat Mufti Rasheed Ahmad was also our elder. Writing good points and preaching them in his memory is everyone's right. If he was not recalled yesterday in his own institute, it is no fault. The authorities have a right in their institution. If we have talked about him today, there is no ground for objections. May Allah revive and introduce his points in the Muslim Ummah! May Allah forgive and write off our points which Allah does not like and which is not useful for the Ummah. I request you to study him speeches and journals.
