(Shumara: 618)

Allah says, "O Allah's dear slaves, O seekers of Allah's good-pleasure, O those who are faithful to Allah, hear, hark, یَااَیُّھَا الَّذِیْنَ آمَنُوْا... O you who believe! One translation is, "O you who have passionate love for Allah." وَالَّذِیْنَ آمَنُوْا اَشَدُّ حُباًّ لِلّٰہ This is 28th part of the Holy Quran and Surah Al-Juma'ah that Allah says یَااَیُّھَا الَّذِیْنَ آمَنُوْا( الآیہ)
"O you who believe, O you who believe, when call for Juma'ah Salaat comes, rush towards remembrance of Allah forsaking everything behind. This is good for you if you understand." (Al-Juma'h:9)
The Jews are discussed before this verse. They had great knowledge. They knew much but lacked in practical deeds like the donkey loaded with books to gets no benefit. The reason was that the Jews were mundane and greedy for wealth. They proclaimed Allah's love but rendered no sacrifice for Din due to lust for wealth and property so muchs getting lost in the business of the world, they were negligent of Allah's true words. In this verse, the Muslims are advised not to become like the Jews but value worship on the day of Friday reaching the Masjid at once when call for Salaat comes and listen to the sermon and establish Salaat. A tradition says, "Whoever talks during the sermon is like the Jews." (Tafseer Usmaani)
Not Just Buying and Selling: The words in Tafseer Baghavi are وقال الضحاک اذا زالت الشمس حرم البیع والشراء (Translation) Imaam Zahaak says, "When the sun begins to go down i.e. the time for Friday starts, buying and selling become unlawful." (Tafseer Baghavi)
Hazrat Ata bin Rabaah says, "When first call for Friday Salaat comes, buying and selling, industry and trade, writing something, touching ones wife and sports become unlawful." (Kamallain)
Hazrat Mufti Muhammad Shafi' writes, "According to the consensus of the Jurists of the Ummmah, بیع here does not mean selling only but every deed which hampers the way to Juma'h is included in بیع so eating, drinking, sleeping, talking so much so studying a book etc. are all prohibited after call for Friday Salaat." (Ma'arif-ul-Quran)
A Decree: A man demanded the ruling from the Decree Deptt of Dar-ul-Uloom Dayoband, "I sell caps and scent etc. on Friday at the gate of the Masjid. Someone has told me that business is unlawful after first call for Salaat. Since then, I place a cloth at my wares after Azaan but after Azaan when I am about to move, people demand caps from me. I say to them, "After Salaat. Buying is now stopped." People get offended, "We need cap for Salaat, what we are to do of it after Salaat." Now what is dictate of Shariah for me in this situation?
Dar-ul-Ifta replied, "Struggle for Juma'h after first Azaan is necessary and doing business of life is unlawful. Selling and buying at the gate of Masjid is a major sin so stop selling your wares after first call for Salaat saying the people to buy caps in advance because selling is prohibited. It is not good to indulge oneself in sins for the sake of others." (Dar-ul-Ifta, Dayoband)
Doctor Abd-ur-Razaaq writes, "Another saying about it is that struggle Salaat becomes incumbent with first Azaan and business becomes unlawful. This second saying seems weightier. The traders who fix turns for their employees or do so themselves so that devotion may continue without any loss in business, coin illegal pretensions". (Your Problems and Their Solution)
Satanic Innovation: Excellences regarding the day of Juma'h are uncountable. This day casts its impacts on the earth, the sky, the Paradise and the hell. This is the best of all days. Only the Muhammadan Ummah has been blessed with this day. This day has brought about great progress to this Ummah. This day is as prominent among other days as the month of Ramazaan among all the months. The most important worship on this day is Salaat of Juma'h. Early march towards Juma'h Salaat has great virtues. There are words in a tradition that those who hurry up to Jum'ah Salaat are blessed with one year's devotion at each step which is not difficult for Allah. Hazrat Imaam Ghazaali writes that in olden times, the Muslims would march towards Masjid before and after Fajr Salaat and stay there till the establishment of Juma'h Salaat. Once Hazrat Abdullah bin Masood reached Jaami' Masjid in the same way but three individuals had already reached there. At this, he admonished himself at his being late. But what is the situation these days? If you are early for Juma'h Salaat, Masaajid are found closed. Not to speak of lay men, even most of the individuals who have knowledge of Din seem negligent of this deed. Not to speak of going early in the morning, if you go to the Masjid with the start of descension of sun, people are perturbed and Masaajid are found shut. How has this downfall occurred now? People know the virtues of Juma'h even today. The Ulama and the masses know the virtues of early march for Juma'h Salaat. Why is not this practical deed?
Hazrat Imaam Ghazaali is of the view that the first innovation coined by the Satan to deprive the Muslims of the great good of Juma'h is that the Muslims stopped early march to Masjid. He writes, "In olden times, roads and streets were filled with people at dawn and pre-dawn that the people had to rush towards Jaami's Masjid with flashlights in their hands until this practice became old and forsaken. It is said that the first innovation in Din was that the Muslims stopped going to Masjid early. The Muslims do not feel ashamed seeing the Jews and the Christians who reach their worship places early in the morning on Saturdays and Sundays and that now the mundane people go to the bazaars of buying and selling and earning profit early in the morning." (Ihya-ul-Uloom V-I).
The said Imaam has said true. The good that we get by early march for Juma'h on Friday is very precious. The Satan does not like the Muslims to reap this good. Hence the custom has now ended and there is deprival everywhere. I have been persuading the Muslims to it for the last thirty years with the capacity granted by Allah. The first pamphlet written by me was on this topic. A companion of Delhi colony Karachi got ten thousand stickers of that pamphlet printed to distribute them among the Muslims. Then I delivered speeches on this topic and a good change was seen by the grace of Allah. So many people began to reach Masjid before the start of speech but this persuasion was not granted with success in general. Only two to four individuals act upon it in every ward and hamlet. The reason is that those who were to tell this ruling are not yet attracted to this good collectively. The Muslim Ummah these days needs great good. The scholars and speakers should study this ruling completely and attentively and inculcate the voice''ذٰلِکُمْ خَیْرٌلَّکُمْ'' in their hearts, act upon it regularly and then persuade the Muslims to it contrarily, punishment instead of good is invited these days. The business continues openly, the bazaars remain crowded and majority of the Ummah remain deprived of the good, blessings and might of Juma'h.
Let Go Details, Take up Deeds: Allah has ordered the believes to rush to the remembrance of Allah after Azaan. فاسعوا does not mean running but being early keenly and fondly. Allah promises that the Muslims will gain good at this early march. These days, people search the individuals who may tell them the secrets of success. So they resort to fortune-tellers to know about their future. The All-knowing and Creator Allah Himself says here that good is gained on Friday after Azaan but it is ordained to those who forsake all and rush to Masjid for sermon and remembrance of Allah.
This saying of Allah is sufficient for true Muslims. So no need going into details but the need is to excel others to act upon it and reap good for this world and the Hereafter. As regards detail about this ruling, it is up to the Ulama to understand and tell others and also when to gain exemption. For example, when does selling and buying become unfair i.e. after descension or first Azaan! Azaan means first Azaan or second one. What is the dictate if business is done after Azaan? Is use of the thing bought after Azaan for Juma'h fair or unfair and the sold thing fair or unfair? These days, Juma'h is establish at different timings in the city. When will the obligation of struggle for Juma'h start with which Masjid and with which Azaan?
If you want to know such questions and details, resort to authentic Ulama or authentic books but the best thing for deed is to get ready for Juma'h before first call for Salaat. As soon as time for Juma'h starts and first call for Juma'h comes, reach the Masjid at once but better if you reach before if even.
May Allah convey my yearning to the Muslims who may make it a routine for their lives so that they may be blessed with this good! Aamin!
